The story Thomas tell is from the opening of Because my father always said he was the only Indian who saw Jimi Hendrix play “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Woodstock from the collection The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven.
I love Evan Adams’ interpretation.
SA: Thomas is Thomas. The actor who plays him is amazing. Evan Adams. He’s had small roles in Canadian productions; he’s a First Nation guy from up there. He’s just amazing. He’s sort of taken Thomas. I can’t write about… I tried to write a short story with Thomas in it but I couldn’t. I kept seeing him.
JP: Seeing Adams?
SA: He’s taken him away from me. He’s so convincing, so real, so Thomasy. He’s a adjective now.

I’d never heard of Smoke Signals before, that’s a great scene though. I’ll have to check it out!
