I find this kind of Twitter challenges about Work in Progress fun to make. They are a great way to meet fellow writers and some readers, but I’ve discovered they are also a great tool to explore my characters in ways that the story not always allows.
I already did one last year, centered on Ingeborg and Grete. I thought this was a great chance to look more closely into Lotte, who still is such a tough customer.
No spoiler ahead.

I’m Sarah, I write Historical Fantasy set in the 1920s.
I’ve been a fantasy writer since first I started writing as a kid, but some 10 years ago I fell in love with the early 1900s and discovered Dieselpunk. And I found my home#amwritingfantasy https://t.co/NAu1ZtBuIB— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 6, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 2
Lotte is a silent film star, very popular in Germany for her beaty and her strong personality. this is actually what she loves abotu herslef: being young and beautiful and successful. She wouldn’t be able to be anyone else.#WritingCommunity pic.twitter.com/5aTO21iZ8n— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 6, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 3
Ingeborg is a student at the University of Berlin. Mother dead when she was a litte girl, father dead in the Great War, step-mother a Berliner businesswoman. Inge considers herself a modern woman and loves to be that#amwritingfantasy #HistoricalFiction pic.twitter.com/4tUfbFgtyR— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 6, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 4
Lotte donates money to different veteran association. Not because she thinks she should do something for them, many of whome have lost everything, including pieces of themselves during the war, btu because it makes her look good#amwritingfantasy pic.twitter.com/vv6fv7NfzB— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 6, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 5
Definitely Lotte. Ingeborg isn’t much into entertaining. She loves to be a spectator, but she wouldn’t get on a stage unless there’s a very good reason.
Neither Lotte nor Inge are fond of alchool. Inge doesn’t like it. Lotte thinks it’s bad for her skin. pic.twitter.com/06bz48rNlL— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 6, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 6
Lotte loves her eyes. She’s convinced (and rightly so) that she can manipulate anyone with the right glance.#WIP #amwritingfantasy #historicalfiction pic.twitter.com/yENHc8OqLn— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 7, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 7
“Everything would be easier without you,” she said to the maze in a dark, gloomy voice. “Why aren’t you here, dad?” she whispered and the maze blurred in the warmth of tears prickling at her eyes.#WIP #amwritingfantasy #HistoricalFiction pic.twitter.com/WVJQeyBZ5E— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 9, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 8
Lotte does have this kind of nightmeres. This is her worse terror. She sees herself in front of the mirror, getting ready for a party. But slowly, she starts to age, her face becomes wrinkled and hugly. And she can’t do anything to spot it.#amwriting pic.twitter.com/Alalk4cAEW— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 9, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 9
No, Ingeborg wouldn’t be able to do it. The New Woman of the cities are very contious of their shape. Ingeborg isn’t overly fretting about it, but she is careful of what she eats and how it reflects on her body shape.#HistoricalFiction #amwriting pic.twitter.com/lg6xWDwtfz— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 11, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 10
Kids? Lotte would never want kids. What for? She wants to be a girl forever. The only idea of kids makes her cringe. pic.twitter.com/xm8Z41B91f— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 11, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 11
Ingeborg would panic, worry that it might have happened something ‘that’ horrible. Berlin streets are not safe at night, especially for women. Then she’d try to cover herself with whatever she finds and get to Grete’s home. She would only trust family pic.twitter.com/078FuHUl28— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 18, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 12
Ingeborg thinks hard work is what will shape her chances.not luck. But she’s got a good intuition, so if she tried, she’d probably win.
Lotte isn’t interested in games, but any limelight is good for her. So she’d make a show, regardless of the game. pic.twitter.com/xCaBIl0skg— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 18, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 13
Ingeborg is a city girl, she’s grown up in Berlin since she was a young teenager. But she lived her early years in a country estate where life is a lot more rustic. So I think she’d manage. Maybe not splendidly, but she’d come out of it, somehow. pic.twitter.com/TyAL7DZJL4— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 18, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 14
Lotte loves herself. More than anything.
She once also loved Florian, in her own way, but now she’s too scared and feels she needs to protect herself first and foremost. Besides, she takes Florian for granted. pic.twitter.com/lLFvepcx3S— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 18, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 15
Ingeborg loves the new times. Everything is possible. Women have a lot more freedom than before the Great War. Berlin is the city of freedom.
But there is a lot of nationalism talk as well. People seem to be looking for anyone to blame for anything wrong pic.twitter.com/IlouQdFTAG— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 18, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 16
Lotte is quite fond of 1920s fashion. She’s gone through many fashion changes in her long life and this latest one is her favourite by far. A woman can show herself and be free of movement.
But sheer, decorated stockings are what she loves the most. pic.twitter.com/np4XLAWAfc— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 18, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 17
One of Ingeborg’s most vivid memories is when Grete told her her dad had died at war. That was the first and the last time Ingeborg saw Grete cry. The strongest prove she has that, whatever anyone else says, Grete truly loved her dad.#amwritingfiction pic.twitter.com/GwLM4xd5yX— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 19, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 18
She was adjusting the position of a lamp while having a bath. No matter how many times people tell her that’s dangerous, she won’t renounce to what she considers a luxury. pic.twitter.com/51CKSufZC4— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 19, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 19
I wouldn’t change anything… of course. Because if I’d wanted to change anything, I would. I’m the one who envisioned and wrote this story.
There’s a reason why stories are the way they are. If we’d change anything, they wouldn’t be the same stories. pic.twitter.com/AEhf9qjdJM— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 22, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 20
Stubbornness. She hates that people don’t yield to her will, but she would never (and has never) change her mind about anything, though there have been countless times when she would have achieved a lot more if she had.#amwritingfantasy #amwriting pic.twitter.com/mjCPHPEfSD— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 22, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 21
Walking the maze with her father when she was a little girl.
It’s always summer in her father’s maze, in her mind. She can still smell the fragrance of the boxwood under the sun and the cool breeze in the green paths. pic.twitter.com/LW6rZ12Dgu— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 22, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 22
You mean in the case she didn’t actually decide to go there to make whoever she’s after feel embarrassed?
Lotte would purr her excuse and try any means to catch everyone attention on the fact that she’s there. pic.twitter.com/cLR20WZGDu— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 26, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 23
If Ingeborg is in Berlin, she would probably visit some museum or library. Maybe have a walk in a park.
If she’s in the country, she will definitely go for a walk. pic.twitter.com/ddrW4iWoWv— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 26, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 24
Lotte doesn’t play any instrument. She considers the time necessary to learn a waste of time. She didn’t train to be an actress either. That came naturally to her and quite successfully. pic.twitter.com/o7eSP7GUeF— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 26, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 25
My #WIP is set in 1924. No computer back then.
Not6 sure why the NSA would ever notice Ingeborg. She’s just another student. If she had a computer, all they would find on it would be her university stuff and researches about theatres and museums. pic.twitter.com/SbSVK79BGA— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 26, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 26
I suppose something similar does happen in the story. Ingeborg and Lotte start out on the same ground (at least apparently), but as the story progresses, it becomes obvious they are no allies.
So I suppose my family would win.#WIP pic.twitter.com/BINvcCP42A— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 28, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 27
Ingeborg always tries to be civil with everyone, no matter how rude people may be with her. When people act stupidly, she does the same, treats them as she treats everyone. But if the thing goes on, she then tries to avoid them. pic.twitter.com/qAx6DCTlJo— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 28, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 28
Indeed, Lotte already has her dream job. She’s always been very good at having people get her lies happily. She used to think it a shame that people didn’t have a chance to acknowledge her ability. When she was offered to act, it was a dream come true. pic.twitter.com/RWZTs8GmAd— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) February 29, 2020
#HeroesandVillains Day 29
She would play ‘Iron Harvest’, a game set in a post WWI world which looks a lot the one she knows. pic.twitter.com/TiUGVKrZwg— JazzFeathers (@JazzFeathers) March 2, 2020
