“Most of the real bad guys in the world are people like you and me; they’re not stupid, and you can’t smell their horns”
– Rutger Hauer
The news of Rutger Hauer’s death touched me more than I expected. I know that for many people he’s Roy from Blade Runner, but for this fantasy enthusiast he will alwasy be Navarre.

A great screen presence who will be missed! ‘LADYHAWKE’ was indeed an excellent romantic fantasy, filmed, if memory serves me right, partly in a castle owned by the late Luchino Visconti.
Il Castello di Soncino. A beautiful Renaissance castle not too far from where I live.

I was sad to hear about his death on another blog – a UK one. Blade Runner and Ladyhawke are two of my favourite Rutger Hauer films – and I’ve seen quite a few including some of his Dutch ones. There are some classic clips from them too – for me, it has to be Roy’s improvised death scene from Blade Runner. But I can watch Ladyhawke repeatedly too.
I’ve watched Blade Runner only once, decades ago. I suppose it’s time for a rewatch.
But I’ve seen Ladyhawke unnumbered times. One of my all-times favourite films.
